As astereognosis or tactile agnosia refers to a neuropsychological disorder from the group of agnosia , which makes it impossible objects by palpation to detect. Visual recognition is usually not impaired. Simple sensory disturbances and cognitive impairments must be excluded in order to establish a diagnosis . Astereognosia rarely occurs in isolation, but usually occurs in the event of damage to the parietal association cortex of the non-language-dominant cerebral hemisphere , for example in the context of a stroke .
