Asterocampa is a genus of North American ragweed butterflies ,all of which are non-iridescent. The species occur in North America, one species is distributed as far as the Antilles and another is distributed as far as Central America. Outwardly , themoths differ so much from the true blueberry moths of the genera Apatura and Chlorippe that they cannot be confused with them.

Usually only the first subcostal vein divides before the end of the cell . The male sexual organs differ significantly from real Schiller butterflies and the butterflies are on average smaller and have a very uniform appearance.

The almost spherical eggs are broad and expansive at the top and have 18 to 20 vertical ribs, between which many fine transverse lines run. They are placed in small groups on hackberry trees ( Celtis ), the food plant of the caterpillars . The caterpillars look similar to those of Apatura, but they lack the horns on the head. Instead, they have star-shaped warts on their heads, which is what gave the genus its name.
