The Astronomical Society Islands ( English Astronomical Society Islands ) are a small group of islands and part of the Canadian Arctic archipelago . The approximately 25 km by 18 km large group consists of numerous flat, rocky islands, most of which are only separated from each other by narrow channels. The largest island is about 6 km by 8 km and is located in the center of the archipelago. The Astronomical Society Islands are located southeast of the Boothia Peninsula in the Gulf of Boothia at the entrance to Lord Mayor Bay . They belong to Nunavut , more precisely to the Census division Kitikmeot, Unorganized .

The archipelago was explored in the course of the polar expedition by John Ross and James Clark Ross in 1829/33. The group is named after the British Royal Astronomical Society , which was still called the Astronomical Society of London until 1831 .
