history

With the move of the Bundeswehr medical school to Munich in 1957, the Bundeswehr medical service was given the lead role for the first time in research in the field of medical NBC protection , which until then had been part of the area of responsibility of the NBC defense force in the Bundeswehr . Effective experimental research was only possible a few years later. In 1966, a separate laboratory building was completed in Munich for research work. When it moved to the Ernst von Bergmann barracks in 1980, the institute was given its current name.

Together with the Institute for Microbiology of the Bundeswehr and the Institute for Pharmacology and Toxicology of the Bundeswehr , the institute became an independent service of the Central Medical Service of the Bundeswehr and the Medical Office of the Bundeswehr . On March 1, 2007, the institute officially received the title of Institute for Radiobiology of the Bundeswehr in conjunction with Ulm University . Since 2012, all three institutes are again subordinate to the Medical Academy.
