from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ataç Sezer (* 1979 in Istanbul ) is a Turkish composer of contemporary music. He has lived and worked in Munich since 2007 .

Sezer studied piano and musicology in Istanbul, as well as Ney , the traditional reed flute of Ottoman court music. He later continued his composition studies in Kassel, with Dieter Schnebel in Berlin and with Matthias Pintscher in Munich. He achieved his first success with projects for the Deutsches Theater Göttingen (2005) and documenta 12 (2007). For 2010 Ataç Sezer received commissions from musica viva and the MusikTriennale Cologne and was invited with his works to the Heidelberg Spring International Music Festival . In 2011, his commissioned work Mirror-reversed was premiered at the Young Euro Classic festival in Berlin. Sezer draws from very different sources for his works: from 24 different tone systems of Maqam music, for which he has developed new notation forms, from microtonality and electronic music.
