The Atadösken in Wuppertal

The Atadösken ('ATA-Döschen') - officially the municipal water tower at the Pfaffenhaus - is a water tower in the Uellendahl-Katernberg district of Wuppertal .

The 43.5 meter high water tower is located on the heights north of the Wupper , near the old country road from Elberfeld to Neviges . It was built in 1927 on a square floor plan, which is unusual for a water tower. Because of its shape with the lantern reminiscent of the can opening, it soon received the popular name Atadösken , after the shape of the container for the scouring powder Ata from the Düsseldorf company Henkel , which was then in use at the time .

The tower is still in operation as a water tower; After the restoration in 1995, which restored the original paintwork, the exterior of the Atadösken was placed under monument protection in 1999 as a townscape-defining element and landmark for the surrounding settlements .

The Atadösken also has an FM transmitter that broadcasts the WDR 2 radio program.
