Atanas Daltschew ( Bulgarian Атанас Далчев ; born June 12, 1904 in Thessaloniki , † January 17, 1978 in Sofia ) was a Bulgarian poet, critic and translator.

Dalchev graduated from school in Sofia in 1922. His father Christo Dalchev was a lawyer and represented the Bulgarians living in Macedonia in the Ottoman parliament .

Atanas Dalchev published his first anthology called Прозорец (Windows) in 1926 . In 1927 he graduated in pedagogy and philosophy at the University of Sofia from. From 1945 to 1956 he lived under pressure from the communist authorities and was only allowed to publish translations. He translated from French, Spanish and German. Dalchev died in Sofia in 1978.

In his poems he deals artistically with problems of philosophy . He translated poems and prose by French, Spanish, English, German and Russian writers. In 1967 he was awarded the Soviet Order of Honor of the Soviet Union ( Russian : Знак Почёта , Snak Pochota) for the popularization of Russian in Bulgaria. In 1972 he received the Herder Prize . His writings have been translated into a variety of other languages.
