Atara (Arabic: عطارة) is a town in the West Bank about ten kilometers north of the city of Ramallah . It has approx. 2300 inhabitants (2007). Atara is 810 meters above sea level.

Neighboring places

Two kilometers south of Atara is the town of Bir Zait , two kilometers north of the newly emerging town of Rawabi .

history

Atara was first mentioned in 1596 in an Ottoman tax register as a taxpayer with 55 Muslim households. a. paid for wheat, olives, vines, fruit trees or beehives. In 1922, the Jewish National Fund founded a moshaw here . It became known as Ataroth , one of the first Zionist settlements in Palestine.

Attractions

One of the attractions is the shrine of Sheikh Al Qatrawani at the entrance to the village.
