The Atecs Mannesmann AG was founded in 1999 in the wake of the concentration of Mannesmann AG in the field of telecommunications. The industrial activities were combined in this legally independent stock corporation and should be made independent on the stock exchange in the coming years. These included the companies Rexroth , Dematic , Demag Krauss-Maffei , VDO and Mannesmann Sachs .

In addition, in the run-up to the planned IPO, a joint venture was agreed with the Siemens group: Atecs and Siemens were to merge their automotive suppliers Mannesmann VDO and Siemens Automotive to form Atecs Siemens Automotive AG. This never happened, however, as the year 2000 began for Mannesmann with the takeover of the majority of the shares by the British telecommunications company Vodafone . As a result, Mannesmann AG and its telecommunications activities were incorporated into the Vodafone Group. The last Annual General Meeting of Mannesmann AG took place on August 22, 2001. a. the change of name to Vodafone was decided.

The Atecs Mannesmann AG companies were sold by Vodafone to a consortium led by Siemens and Bosch . The previously announced IPO, which was also initially targeted by Vodafone, thus never took place. Some of the activities were incorporated by Siemens and Bosch; other areas were sold.

A change of form took place on October 1, 2002. Atecs Mannesmann AG became Atecs Mannesmann GmbH. The owner is Siemens AG. Today's Atecs Mannesmann GmbH is a holding company in the Siemens automation technology division without its own operational business. The Atecs brand is no longer used.
