Atelier Bow-Wow ( Japanese ア ト リ エ ・ ワ ン , Atorie Wan for Atelier One ) is a Japanese architecture firm founded by Yoshiharu Tsukamoto and Momoyo Kaijima in 1992. It is based in Tokyo .

Work of the office

The Bow-Wow office works against the background of the dense development of the cities of Japan and orients itself in its buildings to Japanese building traditions and principles as well as Japanese living traditions. The architects use the term pet architecture for the very small and often nested properties and the possible buildings on them, especially in the Tokyo area.

In a published book, the office uses projects for 70 buildings to show the complex relationships between projects in a dense, urban environment.

Projects

  • 2010: Droog Design town house in Amsterdam. The building on a closed street front has no closed staircase; all rooms with different functions are accessed via the open stairs on all floors.
  • 2009: four-box gallery . The building on Krabbesholm Højskole in Skive in Denmark consists of four concrete boxes piled on three floors. Two boxes are gadacht for external presentations, while two other exhibition rooms are. On the third floor there is living space for the respective artist in residence .
  • Most of Bow-Wow's projects are located in Japan, mainly in Tokyo.
  • This includes the Hanamidori Cultural Center in Showa Memorial Park in Tachikawa in Tokyo from 2005.
  • In 2013/2014 Bow-Wow is a member of the ArchiAid association , which unites more than 300 architects who try to offer the individual affected communities, after the Tohoku earthquake of March 11, 2011, architectural solutions tailored to them. This should make the measures planned from above more acceptable and possibly cheaper for the local population.
