Atelier Goldner Schnitt GmbH , AGS for short, is a mail order company for women's fashion in the upper price segment, based in Münchberg in the Hofer Land . It employs around 500 people and operates in Germany , Switzerland , Austria , France , the Netherlands , Belgium , Finland , Sweden and Norway . With its focus on perfect fits and fashion “like tailor-made”, AGS is best known for its own measurement table with 25 different sizes, which differ from the usual clothing sizes.

Company history

Heinrich Wirth founded the company in 1926. After the death of his father, Klaus Wirth became managing director of AGS as the sole shareholder in 1975. In 1999 KarstadtQuelle AG took over a 51 percent share in the company. In the same year AGS was run together with Peter Hahn , Madeleine and Emilia Lay under their own holding as a special mail order company (“Tristyle Group”) at KarstadtQuelle . Klaus Wirth, former managing director of AGS, took over the Tristyle Group as a second partner alongside KarstadtQuelle .

In 2007, KarstadtQuelle was renamed Arcandor , which bundled all of its shipping activities, including the Tristyle Group , under its umbrella company Primondo . Two years later, Arcandor announced bankruptcy . Atelier Goldner Schnitt and other special mail-order companies in the Primondo Group were not affected by this and continued to work regardless of the turbulence. The reason for this was allegedly a clause that was established when the Tristyle Group was founded: it said that in the event of bankruptcy, all shares would go to the partner. Thus, with the planned sale of the Tristyle Group, Atelier Goldner Schnitt was separated from the holding and handed over to the founding family Wirth in December 2014. Klaus Wirth himself had already withdrawn from the business in 2006, Joachim Groschopp became his successor. From August 2013 to December 2019, Gerald J. Corbae was Managing Director and Shareholder of AGS.
