Athanasios rhetorician
Athanasios Rhetor (* around 1571, † 1663 ) was a Cypriot priest living in Paris .
He was sent to the Orient by the French cardinal and first minister, Jules Mazarin , where he was traveling between 1643 and 1653 to obtain manuscripts for the cardinal's library; in July 1647 he came to Mount Athos . Athanasios also procured manuscripts for the library of the Chancellor Pierre Séguier , the later Fonds Coislin in the Bibliothèque nationale de France .
