Athanasius (Coptic Bishop)
Anba Athanasius (born February 2, 1923 in al-Mahalla al-Kubra , † November 16, 2000 in Bani Suwaif ) was an Egyptian Coptic Orthodox bishop and founder of the order .
Life
Abdel Maseah Bisharah was born in 1962 by Pope Kirellos VI. appointed Bishop of Beni Suef and Al Bahnasa . He took the metropolitan name Athanasius . In 1965 he founded the women's order Banat Maryam (Daughters of Mary) as the first Coptic Orthodox order with a charitable instead of purely contemplative orientation. Sister Sara emerged from the order and made a name for herself as a collaborator and successor to Sister Emmanuelle .
