Atlanta Blues is the name for the local blues scene in Atlanta , Georgia that had its heyday in the 1920s and 1930s. Some of the best blues musicians of their day played in Atlanta. It developed its own tradition on the 12-string guitar, the master of which was Blind Willie McTell before anyone else .
The oldest representative of the Atlanta Blues was Peg Leg Howell , who made his first recordings in 1926. He was followed by Barbecue Bob , Laughing Charley Lincoln and Curley Weaver .
Occasionally the musicians formed groups; the best known of these bands were the Georgia Cotton Pickers .
