Atlas is an impact crater on the northeastern front of the moon on the southeastern edge of Mare Frigoris . It lies east of the somewhat smaller Hercules crater . Its bottom has pronounced fracture structures, the Rimae Atlas , which is why it is counted among the floor-fractured craters (class I).

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after Atlas , the titan of Greek mythology.
