Atomino is an Italian and German comic series and comic book character of the same name from the 1960s.

Release history

The comic Atomino was written by the Italian children's book author Marcello Argilli and implemented by Vinicio Berti . It first appeared on June 13, 1963 as a full-page print in the weekly children's supplement Il Pioniere dell'Unità in the Italian daily L'Unità . The comic appeared in this newspaper with a total of 150 episodes until December 1966. Some of these stories were first published in 1968 in a six-part series and later in the same year as a 120-page book. At the same time, an illustrated novel version of the stories was published in Italy. From 11 March 1967 to March 1974, a second series was published in co-weekly and pioneers -called children's supplement of the women's magazine Noi Donne .

From August 1964, the GDR children's magazine FRÖSI began reprinting the comic under the name Atomino . Compared to the original, the speech bubbles have been edited, largely removed and used as captions. Some of the pictures were colored, rearranged or supplemented, and some of the series were shortened and some were not taken over at all. The translation from Italian was carried out by Egon Wiszniewsky and some newly edited or new drawings were made by Klaus-Dieter Sommer . The reader's response to the comic was so positive that the series remained part of the magazine until 1983. Also in FRÖSI, a total of 14 issues in piccolo format appeared as a supplement in 1968 and 1969 . In the children's magazine FRÖSI, the characters from the comic became the subject of handicraft sheets and games. Then two 170-page books with stories by the author were published by Kinderbuchverlag Berlin , of which the first publication from 1970 was illustrated by Vinicio Berti and the second publication from 1979 was redesigned by Manfred Bofinger .

content

The main characters in the stories are Atomino and his girlfriend Smeraldina . Atomino is a nuclear powered robot and is equipped with supernatural abilities, which enables him to solve his problems in the manner of a superhero . In contrast to this, however, he also has human characteristics and a good-natured character, in addition, he always stands up for the "good cause". His girlfriend Smeraldina is a young Italian girl who supports and helps Atomino . Atomino is usually portrayed as a tinkerer and inventor who guides the reader through the world of natural sciences and technology. In the long series, Atomino deals with current political problems in Italy such as unemployment , the Mafia and the dark side of the country's so-called " imperialism ". Atomino is also pursued on his Italian adventures by unscrupulous scientists, arms bosses and the military who try to abuse him for their own purposes. Later, the two of them also experience various adventures that lead them to different, primarily socialist countries.
