Atomino (computer game)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Atomino is a puzzle computer game by Blue Byte from 1990 for DOS-PCs , Amiga , Atari ST and Commodore 64 .

The task is to create molecules in a 2D view from different atoms , which are represented by different colors . In addition to a KO mode, there is a level mode. The game also contains extra rounds in which the player has to create molecules that fill the screen, and bonus levels in which the design of the molecule is specified.

Game flow

Normal atoms have one to four docking points as a single bond , which when placed, as far as possible, automatically connect to adjacent atoms. Occasionally appearing atoms without bonds act as jokers and, when placed, turn into a normal atom with a bond number corresponding to the unused neighboring bonds. The next following atoms can be seen on the right in a small tube; from this the lowest atom can be placed on a free field or exchanged with an existing atom. If it is empty or from time to time a new atom falls into the tube, if it is full, the game ends - so there is a time limit. The playing field is divided into an invisible grid; at higher levels there are obstacles on this grid that limit the sensible placement of atoms. A molecule is complete when none of its atoms have a free bond. It then disappears from the playing field with all its atoms. Higher levels also have secondary conditions, such as “Build three molecules with at least seven atoms”, and can specify atoms in fixed positions that you have to incorporate and thus remove. To end a level, all atoms that are still on the playing field have to be built into molecules.

Reviews

“Atomino is involved in the top tinkering league!
Atomino shines with a crisp idea and lots of wit, graphically, however, you shouldn't expect miracles "

- Carsten Borgmeier : Amiga Joker 12/1990
