Atrophy blanche

As atrophy blanche (syn. White atrophy , atrophy alba , Capillaritis alba ) is called on the skin visible consequences of vascular disease (usually chronic venous insufficiency ). Clinically it impresses with small white areas of mostly coarse, scarred consistency, which occur primarily in the area of ​​the upper ankle joint .

The atrophy blanche has three phases. Initially, there are circumscribed livid, inflammatory changes in the skin, then the typical white areas, which are often surrounded by brownish pigmented edges or capillary ectasias , and finally painful ulcers can occur.

The cause of the atrophy blanche are occlusions of the skin vessels.
