The Atwima District is a former district in the Ashanti Region in Ghana . The former district of Atwima with a size of 2,411 km² and a population of 234,759 was divided by decree of November 12, 2003 by President John Agyekum Kufuor from 2004 into the districts of Atwima Mponua and Atwima Nwabiagya .

The Atwima District bordered the Amansie West and Ahafo Ano South districts . Furthermore, the district bordered the western region in the south and had a direct border with the Bibiani / Anhwiaso / Bekwai district . The district borders in the west on the Brong-Ahafo region and has a direct border with the districts Asutifi and the also former district Asunafo .
