The Amansie West District is one of 138 districts in Ghana . It is located in the center of Ghana in the Ashanti region and is one of 21 regional districts there. The Amansie West District borders the Atwima , Atwima Mponua , Amansie Central , Bosomtwe / Atwima / Kwanwoma and Central Region districts . Until the administrative restructuring and the establishment of new districts in 1989, today's Amansie West District was part of the former Amansie East District , which in 1989 was made up of the areas of today's Amansie East and Amansie Central District . Today, the chief executive of the now 1,141 km² district with around 108,768 inhabitants (2006) is Ben Kwakye-Adeefe .

geography

The district is on average 210 meters above sea level. In the northwest of the district, between the villages of Manso-Nkwanta and Abore, lies a chain of hills that rise between 560 and 630 meters above sea level.

The rivers Offin and Oda drain the district with their tributaries Jeni, Pumpin and Emuna. In the district, which is covered by tropical rainforest, four forest reserves have already been established with the Oda River Forest Reserve, Apamprama Forest Reserve, Gyeni River Forest Reserve and Jimira Forest Reserve.

economy

Most of the employees work in the agricultural sector. The entire district lies over rich gold deposits. In addition to agriculture, which is mainly operated as a subsistence economy, gold mining is the most important economic factor in the district. The largest part of the district has been made available to gold mining within the framework of mining concessions. Clay deposits can be mined in Yawkrom, Abore and Essuowin.

There are already two local banks with the Amansie West Rural Bank in Antoakorm with branches and Manso Nkwanta , Manso Adubia and Alwima and the Kwanwoma Rural Bank in Pakyi No. 2 was founded.

health

A hospital in Agroyesum has opened in the district. There are four health centers in Adubia, Essuowin, Abore and Tontokrom. Six smaller clinics are available to the population in Manso Nkran, Abouso, Antpakrom, Esaase, Takorase and Manso Nkwanta. Furthermore, in Antoakrom, Mpatuom, Pakyi No. 2, Esaase and Manso Nkwanta Birth Houses.

education

Three senior secondary schools have been established in the district. These higher educational institutions are the Mansoman Secondary School in Manso Atwere , the Adubia Secondary School in Manso Adubia and the Esaase Bontefufiio Secondary / Technical School in Esaase .

Infrastructure

In the district, 65 percent of households get water from rivers. Few have access to hand pumps or wells. Tap water is only available in the villages of Manso Atwere and Esaase.

There is a paved road with a length of 49.6 km between Anwiankwanta - Manso Nkwanta - Abore highway. A multitude of gravel roads run through the district.

Constituencies

In the district of Amansie West only one constituency of the same name was established. Kofi Krah Mensah won the seat in the Ghanaian parliament for the New Patriotic Party in the general elections in 2004.

Others

The village of Manso-Bonsaso was named a Millennium Village by the United Nations as part of the Unites Nations Millennium Project.
