The district of Adansi South (until 2003 part of the district Adansi West) is one of 21 districts of the Ashanti region in Ghana . It has a size of 1,380 km² and approx. 129,325 inhabitants. The Adansi South District borders on the districts of Amansie East , Obuasi Municipal and Adansi North and is in turn on the southeastern edge of the Ashanti Region on the border with the Central Region . It emerged in 2003 from the former Adansi West district, which in addition to the Adansi North district also produced Adansi South.

The capital New Edubiase is about 92 km south of Kumasi , the capital of the Ashanti region, on the road between Kumasi and Cape Coast .

Attractions

The district's fauna and flora, in particular the eight forest reserves and the waterfalls at Nyamkomasu , Tewobaabi and Adansi Kenya, are attractions in the district. A crocodile sanctuary and a game reserve are being planned.

Every year the district celebrates the Afahye Festival in New Edubiase and Bodwesango .

economy

Are grown mostly pineapples, cashews, black pepper, tomatoes, eggplants ( Gardeneggs ) and fungi. There are also optimal conditions for growing palm oil , citrus fruits, cocoa and coffee. Most of the district is covered by dense rainforest. Here you will find eight forest protection areas that extend over a total of 178 km².

The northwestern part of the district is located above the Ashanti Gold Belt, an area rich in natural resources, especially gold. In Mim, Hwediem, Asokwa, Appiakrom, Nyamkomase and Fumso Ketewa are said to be rich gold and diamond deposits. In Asokwa there are also reports of rich deposits of sand and clay.

Constituencies

Only one constituency is shown in the district. For the constituency of New Edubiase, Ernest Kofi Yakah was elected to parliament by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party.
