The Obuasi Metropolitan District is one of 138 districts in Ghana . Because of its urban structure, it is one of the few districts with the designation metropolitan . It is located in the center of Ghana in the Ashanti region and is one of only two urban (metropolitan) districts out of a total of 21 regional districts.
The Obuasi Metropolitan District borders on the districts of Amansie Central , Adansi North , Adansi South and in the south bordering Central Region on the districts of Upper Denkyira and Assin North . Chief Executive is Joseph K. Boampong , based in the district capital Obuasi .
Until the administrative reforms by decree by President John Agyekum Kufuor , the city of Obuasi was the capital of the Adansi West district, which was divided into Adansi North and Obuasi Municipal.
Constituencies
The Obuasi Metropolitan District is divided into two constituencies. For the constituency of Obuasi, Edward Michael Ennin of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) entered parliament in the 2004 general election. Kwabena Appiah-Pinkrah (NPP) entered parliament for the constituency of Akrofuom .
