Atwood is a small lunar crater in Mare Fecunditatis , near the foot of the striking Langrenus crater , to which its southern rim is connected by low ridges of ejecta. Together with the Bilharz craters on its western rim and Naonobu in the north, it forms a group of three. All three were previously considered to be Langrenus satellite craters .
Atwood is approximately circular and bowl-shaped and has a low central elevation in its interior, which is connected to the northern rim of the crater by a chain of hills.
The crater was referred to as Langrenus K before it was given its current name by the IAU in 1976 .
