Collateral ligament

As a collateral ligament (lat. For sideband ) or collateral ligament is known in the anatomy of a band which laterally a joint bridged, and thus the mobility of the joint in the transversal plane limit. Collateral ligaments are formed on all limb joints with the exception of the shoulder and hip joints. They always occur in pairs on the inner (lat. Ligamentum collaterale mediale ; dt. Inner ligament ) and outside (lat. Ligamentum collaterale laterale ; d. Outer ligament ) of the joint.
