The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan (Azərbaycan Respublikası Xarici İşlər Nazirliyi) is responsible for the foreign policy of the Republic of Azerbaijan . It is directly subordinate to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan .

Competencies

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan oversees the country's foreign affairs by cultivating the relations of the Republic of Azerbaijan with foreign states as well as intergovernmental and supranational institutions, the international organizations . The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan publishes information on Azerbaijan's foreign policy as well as extensive information on all countries in the world and international organizations on its official website .

Headquarters and management

It is located at 50 Şıxəli Qurbanov Street in Baku . Since April 2, 2004 Elmar Məmmierenderdyarov has been the acting Foreign Minister. The official spokesman for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry is Hikmət Hacıyev.

Foreign missions

In addition to the headquarters of the Foreign Ministry in Baku, there are diplomatic missions in most of the world's capitals as well as in larger cities in the countries.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan currently has 71 diplomatic missions and 5 representatives, 8 consulates in international organizations in the two countries as well as representatives of the embassies and 3 honorary consulates.

Others

In April 2013, Elmar Mammadyarov was the first Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan to pay an official visit to Israel . The talks focused on opening the Azerbaijani embassy in Israel and strengthening bilateral relations.

In 2006 a Diplomatic Academy was established in Azerbaijan.
