The Family and Work Management GmbH was established in 2006 as Austria-wide established focal point for reconciliation measures and is owned by the Federal Chancellery (BKA). The object of the company in accordance with the federal law on the establishment of the company is "the management of measures to reconcile family and work , as well as the coordination of research funding for the Austrian Institute for Family Research or its successor".

The main tasks of Familie & Beruf Management GmbH are the offering and administration of the audits berufundfamilie , hochschuleundfamilie and family-friendly community as well as the handling of funding for needs-based childcare facilities. For the berufundfamilie audit , Familie & Beruf Management GmbH is the licensee of the “berufundfamilie non-profit GmbH” in Germany, a foundation of the non-profit Hertie Foundation . Berufundfamilie Service GmbH has the Europe-wide license for the audit. In 2011 the Berufundfamilie Management eG was founded. This is the owner of berufundfamilie Service GmbH. Their comrades are also the auditors, who each have a share of € 15,000 per share in the cooperative and provide the certification services for a fee of € 6,700 to € 19,500.

Audit work and family

The berufundfamilie audit is a personnel management instrument that enables a structured and systematic examination of the topic of reconciling family and work in companies. The aim is to implement a sustainable, family-conscious personnel policy and to be more competitive. The audit records the status quo of the measures already offered in the company to improve the compatibility of family and work. Based on the current status, targeted measures for improvement and further development are developed. These will be implemented in the audit process over the next 3 years. The participating companies are awarded the (basic) audit berufundfamilie (basic) certificate by the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, Family and Youth .

Work and family audit for health and care facilities

The berufundfamilie audit for health and care facilities was specially developed to meet the special needs of the health sector. The process basically corresponds to that of the berufundfamilie audit .

audit hochschuleundfamilie

The university and family audit is a personnel management instrument that enables a structured and systematic examination of the topic of reconciling family and work, science and studies in universities. The audit records the status quo of the measures already offered at the university to improve the compatibility of family and work, science and studies. Based on the current status, targeted measures for improvement and further development are developed. These will be implemented in the audit process over the next 3 years. The participating universities are awarded the (basic) university and family audit certificate by the Federal Minister for Family and Youth . The audit, which is tailored to the needs of the Austrian university landscape, was developed in cooperation with experts from the following universities: AAU Klagenfurt, JKU Linz, KFU Graz, TU Vienna and VetMed Vienna. The inter-university network UniKid (www.unikid.at) played a key role in this.

Family-friendly community audit

The family-friendly community audit is a local political process that supports the communities in systematically reviewing and developing their family-friendliness. As a strategic planning, controlling and evaluation concept, the audit offers opportunities to strengthen the economic and living space of the community again. All generations are involved and there is cross-party work for the community. The audit also encourages citizens to identify with their community as a living space for all generations. The Austrian Association of Municipalities has taken on the operational handling of the family-friendly community audit .

The "Business for Families" network

Familie & Beruf Management GmbH also operates the “Business for Families” network. It serves the exchange on the subject of family friendliness in the company. "Company for Families" was launched in March 2015 and meanwhile over 400 partners are involved in the network across Austria. With various activities, such as Austria-wide information and networking events, partner days and personal discussions with partners, the commitment to a family-friendly Austria is to be strengthened.

Award criteria

The published, formal criteria for issuing the certificate are the use of the current external guidelines, compliance with the deadlines and the completeness of the documentation. The content-related criteria for granting the certificate are based on the documents submitted in full and focus in particular on the quality of the target agreement. An independent survey of employees, as is customary with employer seals, does not take place as part of the certification.

The basis of the examination is only the inspection of the submitted documents. Concrete test criteria with their detailed evaluation and weighting are not mentioned. Certified companies and public institutions can present themselves publicly at an event.
