The work of the Mexican sculptor David Gutiérrez Becerril, begun in the late 1970s, was inaugurated in 1981 .

description

The monument stands on a hill in the center of the "Gardens of Remembrance", an extensive cemetery complex. The total height is 40 meters, of which around seven meters are accounted for by the base .
The statue consists of reddish stone blocks. Their color variation gives the figure a special liveliness. The hands are outstretched in blessing, but the gaze extends across the area to the south, as if the Christ were directed towards the capital.

At around 33 meters, the figure is the third largest statue of Christ in the world.
