Church of the Resurrection (Schwäbisch Hall)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Resurrection Church of the Protestant Diakoniewerk is located at Kirchweg 1 in Schwäbisch Hall . The modern building with a free-standing bell tower was built between 1961 and 1963 according to plans by the architect Walter Bischoff, with planning beginning in 1959.

Work actually began on May 17, 1961, and the foundation stone was laid on June 25 of the same year. The church was consecrated on Pentecost Sunday, June 2, 1963.

The choir wall made of brickwork is adorned by an oversized bronze wall sculpture with the title Resurrection of Jesus or The Returning Lord by Ulrich Henn . The Christ seated in the center of the composition has an open book on his lap and holds the other hand raised in warning. Four great angels circle around him. Three keep their arms crossed, the angel below Christ blows the trumpet and calls to the Last Judgment . The windows were designed by the artist Dieter Franck from Hall.

The bell tower is to be removed in the course of the new construction of the clinic in 2017.
