George Gibbs

George Gibbs is a VFX Supervisor who won an Oscar for Best Visual Effects for both Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Wrong Game with Roger Rabbit .

Life

At the age of 16 he began working as a theater electrician at The Hackney Empire theater in east London. At the age of 21, he got a job at Pinewood Film Studios, where he was involved in several films on minor special effects. From 1964 he worked for Gerry Anderson as a special effects assistant on the Thunderbirds puppet series . As a VFX Supervisor he worked for Captain Nemo for the first time , followed by films such as The Bridge of Arnhem , Flash Gordon and Conan the Barbarian .

In 1985 he received his first Oscar for Best Visual Effects for Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, along with Dennis Muren , Michael J. McAlister and Lorne Peterson . He received a second Oscar in the same category in 1989 for Wrong Game with Roger Rabbit along with Ken Ralston , Richard Williams and Ed Jones . He received a third nomination in 1993 for Alien 3 , but the prize was awarded that year, Death suits her well .
