In each edition, five celebrities competed against each other in different game rounds. Each round was about solving knowledge, logic and skill tasks. Before each game, each celebrity had to nominate a colleague from the team who they believed would fail the task at hand. Whoever got the most votes had to run. If he did not manage the task, he had to go to the losers' bench. The celebrity who was left at the end competed against all the losers in the quiz. The winner received 20,000 euros that were donated to a good cause. Jürgen Drews , Enie van de Meiklokjes , Frederic Meisner , Matthieu Carrière and Max von Thun competed in the episodes .

The show had 14 episodes, with the first airing on April 16, 2002 at 8:15 pm. However, the odds were very bad. the first episode attracted only 3.18 million viewers (market share 10.1%), the last in the evening program on May 7th only 3.18 million viewers. After four episodes, the show was therefore temporarily canceled due to poor audience ratings. The ZDF showed the remaining episodes of Eye for Eye from July 13th to September 28th, 2002 every Saturday afternoon.

The show was based on the British model Dog Eat Dog , which was broadcast on the BBC from April 2001 to December 2002 .
