The August-Schärttner-Halle is a multi-purpose hall in the Hessian city of Hanau . It is named after the gymnast and revolutionary August Schärttner .

description

The hall on the northern outskirts of the city was completed and inaugurated in 1989. A striking external feature is the light blue roof construction, on which a photovoltaic system was installed in 2014 . The total usable area is 5,060 m², the interior 3,000 m². It is 77 m wide, 116 m long and 12 m high. The enclosed space amounts to a total of 60,500 m³. There are grandstands on the long sides of the hall area, one of them with fixed seats, the other extendable. If both grandstands are used, a total of 1668 numbered seats are available, divided into blocks. With maximum seating in the entire hall area, the total capacity of the hall is 3864 seats. A gallery runs all around above the grandstand area, on which there are two counters, additional open spaces and toilets. The main entrance on the south side of the building leads directly to the gallery level. Around 600 parking spaces are available on an unpaved open space to the northwest of the hall.

During the week, the hall is available for school sports from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and club and company sports from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

In 2015, the August-Schärttner-Halle provided shelter for up to 1,025 refugees for four weeks before the emergency accommodation moved to Hanau Housing on the site of the former Pioneer barracks in the east of the city.

Sporting use

For sports use, the hall is equipped with a spike-proof high-performance floor and has a 200-meter circular oval with four running tracks and a 60-meter sprint straight with six tracks. The facilities also include a training sprint lane, two long jump pits and a shot put, high and pole vault facility. The hall can be used for ball sports with four volleyball fields, up to 16 badminton fields or as a handball or basketball main field plus three training fields.
