August Dreeke
August Dreeke (* 1905 ; † June 5, 1964 in Bremen ) was a German trade unionist and persecuted by National Socialism .
biography
Dreeke grew up in his family with twelve siblings. From around 1923 he worked as a dock worker. After leaving school, he joined the Socialist Workers' Youth (SAJ), a youth association within the SPD . He was arrested three times during the Nazi era and went into hiding in Czechoslovakia when the Nazis tried to charge him with high treason .
In 1946 he returned to Bremen. For many years, Dreeke was ÖTV district chairman of the ÖTV department IV and was responsible for union work for dock workers, fisheries , seaside resort services , inland shipping and freight traffic in the ÖTV Weser-Ems area.

- August-Dreeke-Strasse in Bremen, Gröpelingen district, Oslebshausen district was named after him.
