August Fricke (architect)

August Fricke (* 1827 in Elbing ; † 1895 in Berlin ) was a German architect .

life and work

In 1843 and 1844 August Fricke trained with the architect Steenke in Elbing, who followed an apprenticeship as a mason in 1844/45. From 1846 he was practically active, among other things, at the Ostbahn . In 1847 he moved to Berlin and trained at the Academy of Arts . In 1849 he was a master bricklayer in Potsdam and did military service until 1850. From 1851 he worked for Heinrich Strack . In 1852 he worked with Heinrich Bürde on the construction of the marine hotel on Leipziger Platz in Berlin. From 1853 to around 1856 he studied at the Berlin Building Academy and, after passing the private master builder examination, worked in Berlin. On July 7, 1855 he became a member of the architects' association . In 1858 he went on a study trip through East and West Prussia.
