August Göwert

August Göwert (born February 4, 1881 in Borghorst ; † April 22, 1957 in Bocholt ) was a German politician and Lord Mayor of Bocholt from 1947 to 1948 .

Life

As trade union secretary of the Christian Textile Workers' Association , August Göwert always stood up for the interests of the workers and, as city councilor of the Center Party, devoted his energy to public tasks from 1925. Despite his impeachment by the National Socialists in 1933 and several humiliations, he remained true to his Christian-social principles. As a businessman, he created a new livelihood. After the end of the war, Göwert presented himself as a co-founder of the CDUBocholt is again available for public tasks. In October 1945 he headed the founding assembly of the “General Union Local Group Bocholt and District Borken”. In the election for the city council on October 13, 1946, Göwert was elected chairman of the CDU parliamentary group and on November 21, 1947 the mayor of Bocholt. He held this post until November 5, 1948. On January 5, 1956, he was awarded the Konrad Adenauer plaque for his services and commitment. Göwert was married to Josepha Linien. The marriage produced a son.
