August Hosius

August Hermann Joseph Franz Hosius (born October 23, 1825 in Werne , † May 10, 1896 in Münster ) was a German geologist and paleontologist .

Life

August Hosius was born in Werne in 1825 as the son of Friedrich Hosius (1785–1858) and Henriette Teesing (1787–1867) and was a brother of the judge Clemens Hosius . For four years he attended the grammar school in Wesel under director Ludwig Bischoff . In 1844 he enrolled at the University of Bonn . There he studied for four semesters, after which he studied six semesters in Berlin. He was a member of the Society of German Natural Scientists and Doctors ,
