August Wicke

August Wicke (* 1856 ; † 1899 in the German colony of Togo ) was a German physician and from 1888 as chief medical officer, the first and only German doctor in the colonial administration in Togo.

From 1893 Wicke headed the Nachtigal Hospital in the then capital Sebbe , which was named in honor of Gustav Nachtigal . He achieved the highest recognition, which is why sick people from neighboring countries also traveled to Wick. Wicke was involved in medical race research .

The August Wicke monument in Aného still commemorates the doctor today .
