August Wingler

August Wingler (born August 14, 1898 in Konstanz ; † 1960 ) was a German chemist at the Bayer factory (Wuppertal-Elberfeld), known for the development of various chemotherapeutic agents.

Life

He was the son of the director of the chemical investigation office in Konstanz, graduated from secondary school in Konstanz in 1916, had a doctorate in chemistry and, like his chemist colleague Fritz Schönhöfer , came to Bayer in the early 1920s. In 1928 he and Werner Schulemann and Fritz Schönhöfer received the Emil Fischer Medal for the development of the first synthetic antimalarial drug Plasmochin at Bayer, which was developed in 1924/25 and 1927 on the market. The pharmacologist Wilhelm Roehl was also involved . With Schönhöfer and other colleagues, he continued the development of chemotherapeutic agents against protozoa at Bayer.
