Augusta State University

The Augusta State University , shortly ASU was a public university in Augusta in the US state of Georgia . Most recently it had around 7,000 students.

The university was merged with Georgia Health Sciences University in 2012 to form Georgia Regents University, which in turn was renamed Augusta University in 2015 .

history

The current university was founded in 1783 as a high school called the Academy of Richmond County and opened in 1785. From the beginning she offered classes at university level. After a growing number of new registrations, the Junior College of Augusta was founded in 1925 while new buildings were being built , which was spun off in 1957 and has since been located on Walton Way . A year later the school was accepted into the University System of Georgia and was henceforth called Augusta College .

Around 1963, a second campus was acquired on Wrightsboro Road , which later housed various sports facilities, kinesiology buildings and a golf course. In 1996 the university was named Augusta State University .

In October 2012, the university merged with Georgia Health Sciences University to form the new Georgia Regents University , which was renamed Augusta University in 2015 .
