Auguste Placet

Auguste-Francisque Placet (born October 14, 1816 in Thernes-Neuilly-sur-Seine (now Paris ), † December 10, 1888 ) was a French violinist and conductor.

Placet was a student of Ferdinand Gasse (solfège), Paul Guérin (violin) and Antonín Reicha (counterpoint) at the Conservatoire de Paris . In 1834 he was awarded an honorable mention in the competition for the Prix ​​de Rome for the cantata L'Entrée en loge based on a text by Jean-François Gail .

In the same year he became a member of the Paris Opera Orchestra , directed by François-Antoine habeneck . In 1838 he became a member of the Société des Concerts du Conservatoire, at the same time violist at the Théâtre-Italien and at the Théâtre du Gymnase-Dramatique .

In 1848, Placet was appointed conductor at the newly opened Théâtre-Lyrique . From 1858 to 1871 he directed the Casino Orchestra in Dieppe, and from 1868 he was also conductor at the Théâtre des Arts in Rouen. In the last years of his life he was a violinist at the Eden-Théâtre in Paris.
