Auguste Viquesnel

Auguste Viquesnel (* 1803 , † February 11, 1867 ) was a French traveler , geographer , meteorologist , ethnographer and geologist .

In 1843 he became treasurer and in 1858 president of the French Geological Society, of which he had been a member since 1833. He is best known for a travelogue of the European part of the Ottoman Empire ( Thrace , Macedonia , Thessaly , Epirus , Albania ), where he traveled in 1847/48. The report also includes geological information.

Viquesnel founded the Société de météorologie de France in 1850.
