Augustin-Théodore de Lauzanne, Chevalier de Vaux-Roussel , also Auguste de Lauzanne (born November 4, 1805 in Vernelle / Évry-Grégy-sur-Yerre ; † October 15, 1877 in Paris ), was a French playwright and vaudevillist .

Life

At the age of 13 Lauzanne came to Paris from his hometown, where he began to deal with literature and theater. He was introduced to the playwright Félix-Auguste Duvert through an acquaintance , who at the time had already written several plays. From this first meeting, not only did a close friendship develop - Lauzanne married Duvert's daughter - but above all a very fruitful collaboration between the two.

Lauzanne made his theatrical debut on March 23, 1830 with a vaudeville in the form of a burlesque parody of the drama Hernani by Victor Hugo under the title Harnali, ou la Contrainte par cor . He developed into the preferred employee of his mentor Duvert and this joint effort produced a large number of stage works over a period of around 50 years. Duvert and Lauzanne were seen as a team so much that they became famous under the name "Duvert et Lauzanne".

Augustin-Théodore de Lauzanne was awarded the Order of the Légion d'honneur in 1853 . His tomb is in the Père-Lachaise cemetery in Paris .
