Augustine (auxiliary bishop)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Augustine († September 29, 1445 ) was verifiably auxiliary bishop in Meißen from 1427 until his death .

Due to his references to St. Hedwig von Andechs , patron saint of Silesia, one suspects that Augustine has Silesian origins. He was titular bishop of Thalona (probably Thala or Tharona ) .

He was called by Bishop Johannes Hoffmann von Schweidnitz . In addition to his work as auxiliary bishop, he was episcopal vicar general .

In 1441 he consecrated the altar of the Church of St. Mary in Kraków. Before his death he donated the altar of St. Hedwig in the Meißner Dom and also introduced the Silesian festival of the transfer of relics of the saints.

He was buried in front of the altar in Meissen Cathedral . His grave slab made of sandstone shows him figuratively as an incised drawing. The split shield shown could not be determined in more detail.
