Georg Weinhold
Georg Weinhold (born November 28, 1934 in Zittau ; † October 10, 2013 in Dresden ) was auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Dresden-Meißen . He was the first auxiliary bishop of the Meissen diocese since the Reformation .
Life
After studying Catholic theology in Erfurt and Neuzelle Weinhold received on 19 December 1959 Bautzen cathedral for the diocese of Meissen by Bishop Otto Spülbeck the sacrament of Holy Orders . He was then from 1960 in Kamenz and from 1965 in Leipzig - Connewitz Kaplan . In 1968 he was first parish vicar and from 1971 pastor in Dippoldiswalde . In the same year, Bishop Gerhard Schaffran appointed him as a full councilor in the diocese administration.
Pope Paul VI appointed him on July 5, 1973 titular bishop of Idicra and auxiliary bishop in the Diocese of Meißen (later renamed the Diocese of Dresden-Meißen). On this occasion he chose the motto In laudem gloriae gratiae suae (“In praise of his glorious grace”) from the letter to the Ephesians ( Eph 1,6 EU ). The episcopal ordination received his Gerhard Schaffran same year on September 8 and also appointed him episcopal vicar ; Co -consecrators were Bishop Bernhard Huhn , Apostolic Administrator in Görlitz , and Johannes Kleineidam , Auxiliary Bishop in the Diocese of Berlin . In 1976 he was appointed cathedral capitular . In 1990 the cathedral chapter of St. Petri in Dresden elected him dean . In 1997, Bishop Joachim Reinelt also made him vicar general in the diocese of Dresden-Meißen, in which he succeeded Prelate Georg Hanke and which he held until 2004. In the German Bishops' Conference he was a member of Commission IV, "Spiritual Professions and Church Services".
On August 22, 2008, Pope Benedict XVI. Weinhold's resignation request submitted for health reasons. At the time of his retirement, Georg Weinhold was the longest serving auxiliary bishop of the Roman Catholic Church worldwide, with 35 years in office .
