Augustinus Roux (* 1726 in Bordeaux , † September 1, 1776 in Paris ) was a French doctor and translator.

Live and act

Roux studied medicine in his hometown of Bordeaux and received his doctorate in 1750. He then went to Paris, where, thanks to the recommendation of Montesquieu , he was able to obtain financial support from his family. This was denied to him because he could not choose a church career.

He learned English and translated several works into that language. He led a medical course and worked on the drafting of the Annales typographiques and was also aggregated as a doctor at the Medical Faculty of Paris, Faculté de médecine de Paris . In 1762 he was appointed as the successor to Charles-Augustin Vandermonde (1727–1762) the editor of the journal of medicine, Journal de médecine .

The extensive knowledge of chemistry led to his appointment as professor of this subject at the faculty in 1771.

He gave two articles in the Encyclopédie (XIII, 906, XV, 607) by Denis Diderot and Jean-Baptiste le Rond d'Alembert . He was a regular visitor to Paul Henri Thiry d'Holbach's Salon Coterie holbachique ("Holbach'sche Clique")
