Augustina Weihermüller

Maria Anna Augustina Weihermüller OSB (born June 7, 1900 in Bühlerzell -Kammerstatt as Josephine Weihermüller , † March 29, 1993 ) was a German Benedictine .

Weihermüller was born as the daughter of a forester near Ellwangen . At first she worked as a teacher in the Württemberg school service. On November 1, 1928, she entered the St. Walburg Abbey . In early 1935 she was sent to Bolder in the USA to build the Abbey of St. Walburga . There she also acquired American citizenship .

On March 25, 1950, she was elected in absentia to succeed the late Abbess of St. Walburg Maria Anna Benedicta von Spiegel . On September 12, 1950 , she designated Joseph Schröffer , the Bishop of Eichstätt . In 1985 she resigned from running the abbey.

She was made an honorary citizen of Eichstätt and received the Bavarian Order of Merit .
