from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Annenborn Monastery was an Augustinian monastery founded in Waltringhausen in 1322 (today part of Anröchte ). As early as 1408 the facility was incorporated into the St. Walburgis Abbey in Soest .

history

In 1322 the widow of the knight Rutger von Mellrich with the name Luzia founded a convent on the basis of her court in Waltringhausen. The Meschede Abbey had given her permission to do so.

The institution followed the rule of Augustine . The monastery Annenborn ( fons sanctae Annae ) was named after the patronage of St. Anne . It was also dedicated to Mary and Saints Adauctus and Felix .

The miraculous image of the Madonna and Child was especially venerated at the time of the monastery . The portrait was from the 13th century.

For unclear reasons, the life of the community ended as early as 1408. The possessions were transferred to the St. Walburgastift in Soest. The chapel of St. Anna possibly stands on the site of the monastery church. In the 19th century, remains of the monastery buildings are said to have been visible in the Schultenhof.
