Augustinian Hermits

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The mendicant order of the Augustinian Hermits is the female branch of the Augustinian Hermits , a strictly claused Roman Catholic religious order .

Hermit monasteries arose from the beginning in close local proximity to the Augustinian hermit monasteries , often also as double monasteries , but this was achieved by Pope Innocent III. was banned.

The order was not officially recognized as an independent order until 1526.

Today there are still monasteries of hermits in Italy , Spain and Poland .

Former monasteries

In the case of some monasteries it is sometimes not possible to clearly identify from the historical texts whether it was an Augustinian hermit convent or an Augustinian choir monastery. Some Benedictine monasteries and houses of the Sisters of Common Life also adopted the Augustinian rule, but did not belong to the order and are therefore not actually considered Augustinian monasteries.
