history

That the Virgin Mary , the altar was consecrated already in 1233, and the St. Augustine consecrated monastery was founded in 1296 by Count Berengar of Leonberg and was also the residence of the male order. The monastery and parish church did not emerge until after the turn of the 14th century and were fundamentally renovated and expanded from 1670 to 1690. Additional altars were built in the 17th and 18th centuries. The miraculous image in the high altar , however, dates back to the first construction phase at the beginning of the 14th century, a cenotaph of the founder has been in a side chapel since 1587. In the years from 1731 to 1733 the main building was rebuilt according to plans by Johann Michael Fischer and expanded again in 1785. The monastery was dissolved in 1803 in the course of secularization in Bavaria. Valuables, archives and books came to Munich. The rest of the property and the monastery buildings were sold and auctioned. The monastery pharmacy remained.

In 1847 Dominicans took over the building and set up a boarding school for girls, which is now run as the St. Maria secondary school of the Dominican nunnery in Niederviehbach.
