St. Luzia was the Roman Catholic parish church of Bedburg - Frauweiler ( Rhein-Erft district ) in North Rhine-Westphalia . It was originally the Augustinian monastery church .

history

In 1404 there was initially only one chapel dedicated to St. Anthony the Hermit in Frauweiler. In 1452, Count Gumbert von Neuenahr called three sisters from the Third Order of the Franciscan Sisters and founded a monastery for them under the patronage of St. Lucia with a new chapel. Thanks to rich foundations and donations, the small settlement grew rapidly and in 1476 had 30 members. In the same year the sisters converted to the Rule of Augustine . In 1488 a new single-nave late Gothic monastery church with a length of 25.10 meters was consecrated.

At the beginning of the 17th century, the monastery, which had suffered badly from the effects of the war and declining discipline, was dissolved. In 1618 Brigittines from Marienforst near Bonn took over the monastery for an initial period of six years, in 1625 it was taken over by Cologne Augustinian hermits. They restored the church in 1634 and replaced the roof turret on the west side of the church. From 1722 to 1736 they replaced the old monastery buildings with new ones. In 1802 the monastery was abolished and St. Luzia parish church.

In 1970 the Gothic church of St. Luzia and the town of Frauweiler had to give way to the Fortuna-Garsdorf opencast mine . On April 8, 1970, the church was blown up. In 1972 New St. Lucia was consecrated as a replacement in Bedburg- Rath . The baroque high altar, two side altars and the pulpit were taken over from the old church in the new building.
