House Augustinerstraße 22

The house at Augustinerstraße 22 in Esslingen am Neckar is a listed building from the second half of the 18th century. The house is also known as Faulhaber's house after its first owner.

history

Philipp Daniel Faulhaber (1713–1773), a brother of Christoph Erhard Faulhaber and Lieutenant Colonel of the Swabian District Artillery, acquired the previous building in 1759, which he soon demolished and replaced with a new building. Under a mansard roof, it shows facade decorations in Louis-Seize style with wreathed medallions and festoons .

In 1840 the house became the property of the lawyer Friedrich Wilhelm Benzinger . The building was modernized in the late 19th century. Details such as the staircase and the stucco ceilings still date from this time. Albert Benz renovated and expanded the house in 1906: a terrace was added to the rear of the building. In 1926/27 a hall on the ground floor was decorated with Art Deco paintings and gold leaf on behalf of the Esslingen Order of Druids . These works by the Stuttgart decorative painters Sachse and Rothmann were later painted over and exposed again in 1989.
